The NovaStar software products can be implemented to provide a flood warning system (FWS) or flood early warning system (FEWS). This requires that a sufficient number of stations and sensors are available to provide real-time data at critical locations used for decision-making. The station and communications hardware for flood warning systems are designed for extreme operating conditions and use communication that perform well in natural disasters.
The real-time data collected that are collected by NovaStar are evaluated against alarm triggers for critical rain amounts and water levels and alarms and notifications are generated for emergency managers and other decision-makers. Alarms are also generated to warn about missing data and other system problems.
The following are possible system features:
- Monitoring critical areas including wildfire burn areas and infrastructure.
- Flooded roadway warning (flashers, gates, etc.).
- Siren and mass notification.
- Publishing data to an organization’s website.
- Integration with geographic information system (GIS) and flood inundation mapping.
- Flood forecasting using modeling.
- Tabletop training using flood simulation.
