The TriLynx team is comprised of both TriLynx professionals and an extended network of individuals and companies that provide expertise in real-time data collection and management. Founders Markus Ritsch and Steve Malers are focused on ensuring expert service to existing customers and investing in product development.

Markus Ritsch – Founder and Chief Operating Officer
Markus Ritsch is a licensed professional engineer who has worked in water resources for more than 20 years since graduating from Colorado State University with a Master’s Degree in 1991. His early experience includes calibration and implementation of the National Weather Service streamflow forecasting models. After the Fort Collins/Spring Creek Flood of 1997 Markus began to focus on the design and implementation of real-time flood warning systems. Markus was instrumental in helping the City of Fort Collins obtain federal money through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program after the devastating floods in 1997. Since then Markus has helped numerous communities in the USA and around the world to implement real-time data collection systems to save lives and to mitigate flood damage.

Markus has developed extensive expertise with real-time telemetry solutions including the NWS Automated Local Evaluation in Real-Time (ALERT) protocol, two-way radio systems and real-time commercial satellite communications. Markus has recently been involved with the design and implementation of the new ALERT2 telemetry protocol for the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD) in Denver, Colorado and the Ventura County Watershed Protection District in Southern California.

For the past 15 years, Markus has utilized the NovaStar5 software system from HydroLynx Systems as the preferred real-time data collection and management solution for all the work performed at Water and Earth Technologies (WET). Markus, through WET, has maintained and supported the NovaStar5 implementation at the UDFCD for the past 10 years. Additionally WET uses NovaStar5 internally for all their client data management and notification needs.

Markus is an active member and participant in the National Hydrologic Warning Council as well as ALERT Users Groups in the Western United States. Markus continues to be a strong presence in the flood warning and ALERT user communities.

Steve Malers – Founder and Chief Technology Officer

Steve Malers has worked for over 20 years developing software tools for hydrologic data collection, management, and analysis. His experience includes porting the National Weather Service River Forecast System (NWSRFS) from one UNIX platform to another, supporting NWSRFS implementations, and developing calibration tools for hydrologic modeling. Steve also was the lead developer of streamflow forecasting systems while working in consulting. More recently, Steve founded the Open Water Foundation (OWF), which focuses on developing software for water resources and addressing complex water issues in Colorado and the Western US. One of Steve’s major development efforts at OWF is Colorado’s Decision Support Systems (CDSS) and the TSTool software, which automates processing of time series data and is used for hydrologic data analysis and modeling. Steve’s experience with hydrological data collection and management, software technologies, analysis tools, and system integration is utilized at TriLynx to ensure that TriLynx is able to support customer configurations and continue enhancing the NovaStar5 system to support new applications beyond its traditional market.
